작별 인사를 하고 그의 어머님은 눈물을 글썽이셨다.
Every day she watched for the postman
But the long awaited letter was overdue
It's not the silence that makes you crazy
It's the sound of a heart breaking in two
매일 그녀는 밖에서 우체부를 멍하니 기다리고 있었으나
그 오랫동안 기다리던 편지는 인내의 한계를 넘어섰다.
우리를 애절하게 하는것은
편지 소식이 없다는 사실이 아니라
가슴이 무너지는 듯한 소리 때문이다.
Then it came across the ocean
It was hard to understand the awful news
I don't know why I still remember
I guess it's just the Lake Placid Blues
그때 편지가 바다를 건너왔고
그 무시무시한 소식은 믿기지가 않았다.
아직도 왜 그기억을 하고 있는지 모르겠다.
아마도 단지 그 Lake placid blues 때문이겠지.
I turned 18 and left that part of the country
Went down on the Padre Island coast
Of all the hard times I still remember
The repossession of the guitar hurt the most
난 18살이 되었고 시골 그지역을 떠나
padre 섬 해변으로 갔다.
힘들었던 시간들중에 그 기타를 다시 손에 넣은 사실이
가장 마음을 아프게 했다.
I often stood in line outside the mission
And I huddled there beside them in the rain
A priest came to the door with empty eyes
I could see he no longer felt their pain
종종 군복무에 벗어나 다른 이들과 함께 있었다.
비속에 그들옆에 움추리고 있었다.
한 목사가 공허한 눈빛으로 문으로 다가왔다.
그는 그들의 고통을 더이상 느끼지 못하는것 같았다.
Some were searchin' for forgiveness
And others only wanted food
I needed more than I could ask for
There is no comfort with the Lake Placid Blues
어떤 이들은 용서를 구하고 어떤 이들은 단지 먹을것을 원했다.
나는 요구할수 있는 그 이상이 필요했다.
Lake placid blues 는 위로가 되지 안는다.
It's hard to find good friends in a lifetime
You can usually count 'em on one hand
I shivered by the fire and the dawn was breakin'
And I scattered his ashes on the sand
인생에 있어서 좋은 친구를 찾기가 그리 쉬운건 아니다.
우리 모두는 보통 그들 중에 단지 한명에게만 의존한다.
나는 불가 옆에서 추위에 떨어야 했고 동이 트고 있었다.
나는 모래위에 내 친구의 유골을 뿌렸다.

아주 신성한 모습으로
