프랜 코스모 (Fran Cosmo, 보컬) : 1956년 10월 17일 미국 출생
배리 구드로 (Barry Goudreau, 기타) : 1951년 11월 29일 미국 출생

보컬 주자인 '프랜 코스모(본명: Francis Cosmo Migliaccio)'와 베이스 주자인
'브루스 스미스' 그리고 미국 록 밴드 '하트(Heart)' 출신의 드러머 '마이클 데로시어'를
구성원으로 하여 출발한 밴드는 처음에 '오리온'이라는 짧은 이름을 사용했었다.
하지만 오리온 영화사(Orion Pictures)로 부터 밴드 이름의 사용에 대한 항의가
들어 오자 '더 헌터'를 붙여 오리온 더 헌터로 이름을 바꾸고 1984년에 데뷔 음반이자
유일한 음반인 'Orion The Hunter'를 공개하게 된다.
오리온 더 헌터의 데뷔 음반에서는 'So You Ran'이 싱글로 발표되어 소폭의 히트를
기록하기도 했었지만 우리나라에서는 단연코 록 발라드인 'Joanne'가
많은 사랑을 받았었다.
서정적인 연주와 애잔함이 동반된 호소력 짙은 목소리가 록 발라드라고 하면
가장 먼저 떠오르는 분위기를 그대로 구현하고 있는 이 곡은 또 다른 록 발라드 곡인
'Dark And Stormy'와 함께 음반을 빛내주고 있는 명곡이라고 할 수 있다.
