Vinny Appice ( 밴드의 드러머)와 새로운 밴드를 구성하려는 의도로 Black Sabbath 를 떠난 후
보컬리스트 Ronnie James Dio 가 이끄는 후 진행되었습니다.
Dio라는 이름은 당시 상업적 관점에서 이미 잘 알려져 있었기 때문에 선택되었습니다.
밴드는 10 개의 스튜디오 앨범을 발표 했으며 , Dio 자신이 유일한 상임 멤버이기 때문에 여러 해 동안
라인업이 변경되었습니다.
